I paid a visit to Railway Fields nature reserve in North London to learn about aquatic pond planting. The session started at 11am and finished at 1pm. I learnt about the different sorts of plants you can plant in and around a pond. I thought this would be useful because I may very well be planting in or around ponds in the future. The site was one of three nature reserves in North London, Parkland Walk, Queens Wood and Railway Fields.
The iron gate at the entrance was tastefully done.
We were lead to the pond, by the volunteer guide who told us that the pond we were replanting had no been improved since the 1980s!! We were given a diagram of the planting plan which had two types of plants for different areas of the pond, submerged partially submerged.
The walk leading to the pond and education hut where volunteers where to meet

Looking Right.
The plants are taken out of the boxes
Bags of Hessian were cut into small squares to hold the plants and soil .Stones were added to weigh down the bags and stop them from floating
Sorting the plants
Evidence!
You can see the partially submerged plants around the bank of the pond
I enjoyed this 2 hour pond planting session it was interesting to know about the types of plants you can put in a pond. I can now recall a quick selection of pond plants that can be used in different areas of the pond. After this session I went strait onto Hawkswood Nursery in Chingford, North London.
